Francisco Partners is in talks to acquire Moneris, the Canadian payments processor jointly owned by Royal Bank of Canada and Bank of Montreal. A deal could value Moneris at up to $2bn, though discussions are ongoing and a transaction may still fall apart or attract rival bidders.
Moneris is one of Canada’s largest merchant payment processors, handling more than 5bn transactions annually, and would complement Francisco Partners’ existing payments investments, including Verifone and a stake in Paysafe.
